Kaimanawa Development Scholarship

We are thrilled to announce the Jennifer Mills Kaimanawa Development Scholarship!
This is a fully funded Kaimanawa opportunity that includes:
• The initial handling of your wild Kaimanawa (4–6 weeks)
• Transport from the muster
• Gelding
• Five months of mentorship with Morgan Chandler-Bruce
• Up to 10 free lessons while the horse is at our Taupō base during the initial handling period
• Ongoing monthly training days with Morgan
• The opportunity to compete in the Kaimanawa Legacy Colt Challenge at Equifest, alongside Morgan as part of her Stallion Challenge team
The only cost to you is the $250 purchase price of the Kaimanawa horse to make you its legal owner.
What else is included in the scholarship:
• Free auditing of the horse’s early handling sessions
• The chance to watch the 100 Kaimanawa Horses – 100 Days project unfold and learn from the taming of other wild horses
• After 4–6 weeks, once your horse has met key handling milestones, it will be ready to come home with you
You’ll learn everything needed to produce a wild horse to a competition standard, including advanced handling milestones to prepare your horse for competition:
• Shoulder and hindquarter yields
• Sidepass
• Reinback
• Obstacle training
• Freestyle elements
• Lunging
This experience is an ideal stepping stone for those who dream of:
• Competing in future Stallion Challenges
• Becoming a KLF Approved Trainer
• Making a real impact in saving and rehoming wild horses
Applications close April 10th to allow time for selection. Email events@kaimanawalegacyfoundation.org to be considered. The KLF team will then handpick the successful applicant based on passion, potential, and commitment to wild horse development. The successful applicant will be notified by 5pm, April 11th.
We’re looking for a North Island based trainer, aged 18-years or over, who sees this as a long-term pathway to working with Kaimanawa horses and contributing to their future.
